This page is BEING ADDED TO.....

We hope in due course to provide here our own Crystal Directory that will help you find the metaphysical uses and properties of a wide range of the most commonly found crystals, which are likely to be in any basic collection. This is a work in progress, as we have many things claiming our attention! However as and when material presents itself, we will try to include it here. Eventually we hope to cover all the crystals that we are able to sell in this directory. Some examples of the information we will include follows.

THE QUARTZ FAMILY:

After many years of collecting crystals, and being endlessly fascinated by the range of minerals and their forms and colours obtainable, and having collected a great many of them along the way, I find that clear quartz remains one of my favourite and most used crystals. The vast number of forms and energies (no two are EVER the same!) and my wonder at how these remarkable Beings have come into existence never ceases to amaze me. We ask the students on our Crystal Healing Diploma Course to do a great deal of intuitive investigation with crystals throughout their 2 years of study, and spend 4 days of classroom led exploration looking solely into the vast quartz family. I still enjoy joining in with this, and had an interesting insight into the nature of the main members of the crystal family in one session, which I insert below, being an extract from my journal.....

First was smoky quartz:
I AM the Heart of all things. Deep within the Earth I lie, secret and hidden, that I may do my work alone and without hindrance. The wondrous workings of the depths of the Earth and her core are a part of my fabric: for in contacting the earth you reach her heart, which is her centre – and the root of All Things. From my network of earth coloured Beings is carried the vibration of Life, for from the core does ALL spring forth, and to the core will all return.
Next was citrine quartz:
I AM the mind of the Earth. It is my link with the Iron backbone that supports all in Faith and Hope, connecting body to mind and to the orbiting satellites of the Galaxy, which encircle and rotate around the matrix of the Earth, collecting and grounding information and knowledge, to disseminate it to All that may access it. For the mind is all knowing and all seeing, with tendrils that reach out to all corners of the Universe, from the Heart of All. I AM structure; I AM Creation that forms with order and is the antithesis of chaos.
Next was rose quartz:
I AM the emotion of the Earth. I channel her heart-felt love and gentleness, which is felt in every pore and every cell, filtering out through the energy bodies of the planet and every living creature that dwells therein to fill and illuminate all thoughts; all words; and all deeds. For Love is the fire of Creation that sparks to Life everything that is made manifest. It is the purity and clarity of the Creator in its most vibrant and potent form. For the mind may create, but it is the emotion of Love that animates and gives life to that which has been formed.
Next was amethyst:
I AM the Spirit of the Earth. My life is your life – your life is mine. Fired with inspiration and deep inner knowing that all IS and all ARE Divine. Here is the God within – your trust and inner knowing that all is not simply as it seems or is sensed by the logical mind. I AM connected to your Divine Spark within – your Inner Light and Inner Star that contains the records and remembrances of all that you - and the Earth - ever was, is and shall be. Neither Time nor Dimension has meaning to me, as I span ALL and exist in infinity. My illumination strengthens your certainty of who you are: your roots and place within the infinite Plan of the Infinite Creator.
Finally was clear quartz:
I AM Soul. I am the messenger of Infinite existence and the multiplicity and vastness of your True Self. As you live within your self-imposed isolation and smallness I may provide a window of clarity through which you may connect and touch the substance of your Being. To all things animate and inanimate I bring the Light of Source, the essence and Love of Creation, that ALL may find and know their reality. My forms are varied and carry messages in many languages that may be accessed and revealed as time and circumstances are Right, to support this knowing. I hold within my structure ALL knowledge, for too I AM the Recorder of the Universe, existing on many Planes and Dimensions and Be-ing this Service to all of Source’s outpourings and Creations. Let the rainbow of my knowing fill your hearts, minds and souls with the certainty of Life – in all its many and infinite Wisdoms.
I was taken aback at first by the smoky quartz words about being the Heart of all things, for traditionally we associate this crystal with the lower / base chakras. Then I was shown what each crystal had said as a pattern connected to the Unified Field theory and the construction of our Light Body, individual and planetary, and realised that I was being told to stop looking linearly and to look again multi-dimensionally. Taking the model of the Unified Chakra field, then the core of our field IS at the heart, and this is indeed the root, and remains the anchor and core of our new energy body. Then we expand out spherically to encompass the solar plexus and throat – mind and communication – relevant to citrine. Next we expand to encompass the sacral and third eye – where we add in our merged emotional self / intuitive self. Next we expand again to encompass the base and crown chakras, whereby body and ego blend with our Higher Self and True Self, and we come home to our spiritual Self. Finally we add the Alpha and Omega Chakras to form the new inner core of the new Light Body energy system, which will reach out and expand to connect with all that is out there, regardless of space, time or dimension. This is our real self – our Soul that is the spark that connects us to God......

I think it would be interesting to try a crystal layout to reflect this:
E/Star = clear quartz point, termination away from the body; base = clear quartz tumbled stone; sacral = rose quartz t/s; solar plexus = natural citrine t/s; heart = natural smoky quartz t/s; throat = natural citrine t/s; brow = rose quartz t/s; crown = clear quartz tumbled stone; S/Star = clear quartz point, termination away from the body.

GARNET:
Cubic system; hardness 6.5 – 7.5.

Garnets come in a variety of crystalline forms, colours and hardness. They may be varying shades of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, brown and violet. The forms that we are using here, and the ones most usually associated with what we see in jewellery form are the deep red ones, usually pyrope garnets, rhodolite garnets or almandine garnets. It is the qualities of these deep red tumbled garnets that I outline below..........

The garnet feels cool and glassy to the touch, and has the colour of a deep wine-red, with tones of deep blue and purple in it – rather like the bloom on red grapes. Some of them have deeper more earthy tones of reddish brown when held up to the light. As they warm up in your hand, they give out a slow, steady pulse. They are definitely energising, but not as much as the more vibrant red stones, for there is an earthing and grounding aspect to the energy that keeps it from getting out of control. Once again this is a steady reassuring stone, although it may not feel comforting. There is a sense of old-world ritual and solemnity about the energy. There is no doubt that you can depend on the energy (it is rock-solid), but it is not necessarily a stone that you will fall in love with yet you will come to respect it. To fully appreciate the richness and depth of the colour, you need to hold the stone up to the light and hope to catch a glimpse. At first glance it is often hard to tell that it is red, for it is not fully transparent unless you have a gem quality or very thin piece. It is almost as if the colour is hiding within the density of the stone, and this gives it a kind of secretive feel. This does not mean that the garnet will not help us, but that you need to make friends with it and try to get to know it well before you can truly understand it. It has hidden depths and could work with us on our own hidden depths – to release and help heal old or buried wounds; to help with past-life work; and to help us find and appreciate the potential that may be hidden within ourselves, and others. It will help us to look past the surface and outward appearances to the core of what actually is. Physically it will work with most fluid systems of the body and their ailments, but especially the blood, circulatory system and lymph.

Garnets are what I would deem an Old stone, for they have their roots far back in time, and have been used and revered by many ancient civilisations now long forgotten. This wisdom and strength acquired over the aeons is reflected in their applications today. They are not what you would term a high-vibration stone, but they have an invaluable part to play in firmly rooting all higher experiences into the physical plane. If mankind truly wish to attain their goals of ascending into the higher dimensions, yet with their physical bodies (unlike before) then they have to master the merging of the “heavenly” with the “earthly”. High ideas and ideals are no use unless they can be understood, applied and carried out in the physical state. This ascension process is not an individual effort – surely, there are individual aspects concerned, but the effort is for the whole NOT the few. It is so important not to lose sight of the fact that we all come from the same source, and that unless we all progress then our goals will not be achieved. So turn and reach back to those behind you and give them a helping hand, a kindly word, a loving touch. And so it will be given to you. Black, white, yellow, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist – we are all the same and lit by the same flame. So act with others as you do with the garnet and look for the colour and depth within your fellows, not what they may display on the outside.

HEMATITE:
Trigonal system; hardness 5.5 – 6.5.

Hematite is to be found in several different forms, both as crystals and masses, both silver colour and red brown / black. Crystals forming as hematite roses are not too hard to find, and very attractive. To find true rhombohedral crystals is however much harder, and I consider myself very fortunate to have found one – and with a record keeper on it! It also forms as what is called “kidney growth”, being either glassy or earthy red. The most common way we will find this stone is in its tumbled form from massive growths. It is easy to identify because of its silvery reflective colour, and the fact that it feels heavy for its size.

It is cool to the touch at first, but will warm up surprisingly fast. Often it feels as if it is stuck to your palm – in this case you may be benefiting from its strong grounding qualities.
Hematite is one of the stones that I could not do without. It has strength and is an excellent foundation stone. It is also a bit of an enigma, as despite its strongly grounding energies, it also can in some circumstances feel distinctly “off-planet” – a little meteorite-like! But for placing at the feet, or holding in the hands not much can beat it for its grounding effects. Hematite will also have the effect of immediately closing down any chakra if placed on it – and this can be useful on the higher chakras in the case of psychic overload. Be careful when you do so though, and be warned, for it will do this very fast, which may be a bit of a shock. Along with the earthing effects, hematite is also very reflective, and useful for reflecting or deflecting anything you do not want in your energy field. For this reason I also find it useful to wear or carry as a protective stone. Physically hematite has always been associated with blood and circulatory disorders, and the kidneys. It could also be used to aid sleep and help with problems with self-esteem.

You have spotted the polar qualities of hematite! It is of the Earth, yet not of the Earth. Its formation is one of the strongest iron- based minerals you will find, and in this it reflects both the inner core and foundations of the planet itself. And also reflects the base materials which originated in the outer universe before the planet was born. So your planet carries with it a strong signature from areas of what you call outer space (although it is actually inner space!), and it is this that you peoples who have roots far way from here identify with. And it also provides a familiar signature to “callers” from regions of the Universes who recognise it as a part of their own particular roots. It also contributes to your magnetic field – the electromagnetic fields that are surrounding both the planet and every inhabitant of her. And that field travels out into the Universe forming everlasting and infinite lines of communication. The vibrations that begin indescribable distances from you may be transmitted and received by you in this manner. And so you, and your planet are never alone. If you could only expand your senses more easily you would feel how much a part of the Greater Universe you are. And then maybe you will realise that the world does not revolve around you, but that you are a miniscule yet important part of a vast scheme beyond your comprehension. Use your hematite to ground you to your Earth, and in doing so recognise and accept your place as a part of a much larger whole.

HERKIMER DIAMOND.
Hardness 7, Trigonal system.

These are a special formation of quartz, found in Herkimer County, New York State. They grow in unique conditions and because of this they are exceptionally clear double terminated crystals. Usually they appear quite short and stout, and have a light and sparkling quality about them. Some are absolutely perfect, and others grow in joined up clusters or groups. They range in size from mm to hand sized, and where they have grown in groups but become separated may exhibit seed crystals or key formations. It is also common to find inclusions of carbon (black particles) or of air and sometimes water. These may give rise to wonderful rainbows. Other characteristics of quartz may be found, such as windows, time links and on rare occasions record keeper markings. If you are lucky enough to find one of these, it is a special piece indeed!

When you hold a Herkimer in your hand, it at first feels very cold – almost icy, (which is what they look like of course). But they warm up quickly, and start to emit quite strong vibrations. They are surprisingly heavy for their size.
They are energising to all chakras and energetic bodies, and will open up and increase the speed of rotation of the chakras where they are placed or focused upon. They are also very cleansing to the chakras and auric field, and are the best remover of toxins from the fields. They are very synergistic stones, and work well with most other stones, enhancing and increasing those stones’ powers and energies. Despite what you may think, for such a clear stone, they work hard to pull energy and Light into both physical and non- physical bodies, and to fully ground it there. (Grounding in this case meaning bringing it firmly into the body and anchoring it there.) Herkimers are very clarifying to the thoughts and emotions, and will help bring “enlightenment”. They will also act to clear out all the “stuff” that we don’t need and which no longer serves us, which we tend to hang onto either consciously or subconsciously. They will also aid the integration and grounding of new thoughts, ideas and energies to aid our assimilation of Light and raise our vibrational energies. The black particles of carbon, although to some spoiling the clarity and perfection, are a reminder to us of the interaction and support given to us as carbon-based life forms by the quartz family.

It is no coincidence that quartz is the most abundant crystal on the planet, and that it is found in so many forms and in so many locations. In its’ structure it closely mirrors the blue print of humanity, and for this reason it is the best, most adaptable and most general purpose of all the crystals available to mankind at this time. Of all the quartz varieties the Herkimer is the one that most approaches perfection and the ideal. Each one is an individual, for their nature is to grow complete and perfect – as in fact humans also have the blueprint and potential for. The uniqueness of its double terminated form and the perfection and clarity demonstrate their completeness. This double terminated aspect makes the crystal even more adaptable than other quartz, in that it naturally directs energy in a bi-directional way. Additionally it is the clarity that draws down and transmits some of the highest levels of Light and vibration that are currently accessible to the general populace. We require quartz of this nature in order that the energies are transmitted and received in as pure and original form as possible.
Because each Herkimer is complete, and a wise and conscious being in its own right, then size if of little relevance as long as clarity and form are of the highest quality. The difference comes only in the amount of energy that can be received and transmitted at a given moment. Obviously the larger stones may channel more energy and faster, but the quality of the energy and its signature remains the same regardless. However when used in grids, the energy “moved” is multiplied by the factors, so in 6 small stones the total potential would be equal to one stone 36 times larger!

RUBY:
Trigonal; hardness 9.

A ruby crystal is a symmetrical hexagonal piece. The colour tends to be a deep red, almost the colour of a fine port. Some are a pinker shade, but try to get the deeper colours if you can. Most rubies you find for therapy use are quite dense and opaque, yet they still have a beauty all their own. The clear forms of ruby are rare and expensive, and usually bought up by the gem industry. If you can afford to obtain the clear gem quality crystals, perhaps faceted, then you will see the red becomes more the colour of blood. It is not unusual for ruby crystals to have record keeper markings on their end faces, so look out for triangles or pyramids when buying one.

When you hold a ruby you are immediately struck by its solidity and warmth. There is an innate strength within ruby that brings with it a reassurance. And there is a devotional almost mystical feel about it too. Perhaps this is to do with the blood –red colour, which brings with it reminders both of sacrifice and life force. For many the ruby is a symbol of the Christ energy, and may well bring the energies of those gods and Masters who are associated with this, such as Jesus (Sananda), the Buddha and Isis. It also symbolises the heart, both on a physical and symbolic level. The heart is the machine that keeps our life force going, providing our cells with the nourishment and elements they require. So too it is with the Divine – the energy supplied keeps us spiritually alive and nurtured and provides all the elements we need to live full and productive lives. The Christ energy is based around unconditional love, and it is this that our physical selves need to learn. The heart is symbolised as the seat of love in our bodies, and the heart chakra is the centre of our love and consideration for our fellow souls. The love for Self develops at the solar plexus, and it is the heart centre that transforms this into love and regard for those outside our Selves. But remember we need to learn to love ourselves first!
The ruby is good to use at the heart chakra, and also at the base as may be expected. But don’t confine it to there- it is also an excellent energiser and grounder but will work well virtually anywhere that energy and life are needed. It very much helps to ground the spiritual into the physical, so that the Higher side of our natures may become an integral part of our daily lives. It is certainly a master at healing emotional wounds and as such it may help in supporting the release of old habits or patterns both on an emotional and physical level. It may also help in integrating new and more beneficial patterns into our lives.

The ruby is a splendid thing, majestic in its glory. Rubies are amongst the most prized gems, and have appeared in important positions in the headdresses and state items of kings and leaders. This is no coincidence, for the ruby brings with it a devotional link with the Divine that is of the highest quality. And with it, as you said, comes that sacrificial element – the element that in the Highest realms is the love that the leader bears for his people. In the old days, when tribal and what you regard as more “uncivilised” societies existed, it was customary for the Chief to lead his men into battle. He was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, and would not expect his men to go where he was not prepared to himself. He made it clear that he was prepared to sacrifice himself and would die rather than submit his people to what he believed to be wrong. You may consider that battles are not very spiritual, but battles may be fought on many levels and in many ways. It is being true to your Self to be prepared to stand up and fight for what you believe in. But be sure you know your heart. Be sure that you are comfortable that what you are perceiving as the truth is the truth. And be sure that it is a principle that is worth fighting for, be it with words or actions. Many martyrs have died for their beliefs, as have many ordinary people, and as did Jesus the Christ. And they have all changed the world in their own ways. So pick up your ruby, and be prepared to change your world.

TIGERS EYE:
Trigonal, hardness 7.

This stone is of the quartz family, which has inclusions of oxidised crocidolite in it, giving it the characteristic gold / brown chatoyancy. Tigers eye originated as the blue hawks eye, and if it is heated it turns red to give us bulls eye. Sometimes hints of blue remain within the stone, and sometimes it may contain fine bands of hematite, which increases its protective and grounding qualities. It is found as masses, which are usually tumbled into stones, or occasionally polished into shapes. At first glance Tigers eye looks rather unprepossessing, but what a supporter it is! As you hold it it feels cool, but warns quickly, and feels silky smooth. It is tumbled into stones that are usually quite chunky, but remain well rounded off.

Tigers eye has a surrounding, nurturing, blanketing energy. It feels solid and supporting and has about it an air of trustworthiness, reliability and honesty. It is a good down to earth piece that is strengthening in its solidity. It is often used and associated with the solar plexus chakra, and is very useful in calming and balancing this seat of our emotions.
The gold aspects of the stone represent the highest order of colour, which represents the Divine, the outer layer of our auric shell and the Cosmic Lattice. These surround and protect us and keep us contained as “who we truly are”, whilst simultaneously permitting our connection to “all that is”. The perfection of our blueprint is contained within this shell.
The brown colours represent the Earth, and its earthy qualities makes it grounding and stabilising, encouraging a slowing down and regulation of energies. It also brings a feeling of nurture and of balance. This combines with the gold rays to Earth them, and thus God, into our everyday realities.
The stone brings brightness into darkness to give us hope. It is also both reflective and protective, turning away what is negative and attracting and grounding all that is positive. Its possibilities for transformations through oxidisation and the action of heat make it a bit of a chameleon, and also show how experiences and events act to shape and change us.

This stone tigers eye is a solid supporter of mankind in his search for his / her Self. It is an attractor of the hope and the glory that is God, bringing us support and the knowledge that the treasure we truly desire IS attainable. For that treasure, the ultimate prize, is to know our Selves to BE God, from whom all have separated in order to find our Selves again. We choose life experiences to make us whole and complete in full knowledge of what it is to be imperfect. For without understanding, recognising and experiencing those imperfections how can we know perfection? The phrase “see one, do one, teach one” comes to mind. We view, we experience and then we are able to share that experience with others. And in this way we learn. Sometimes we need more than to be told the fire is hot. But once we have tested what we are told and have placed our hand in the fire, only then do we truly know and understand what hot means. And whether or not it is an experience we wish to repeat! And so it is with our lessons in life. They show us where we feel joy, where we feel fulfilled and where we don’t. They encourage us to follow our hearts, to form our paths within the Light and to find wholeness and completeness in our travels back home to God. Each positive step is a raising of our vibrations and an opening up to accommodate more Light energy. For it is being that complete Light we aim for in our ultimate unity with All in becoming God.

TURQUOISE:
Hardness 5-6, Triclinic system.

Turquoise is usually found as masses or knobbly nodules, and ranges in colour from light to dark sky blue, as well as blue-green. Some pieces are flat, but all will often have black or white traces on their surface, some also having small pieces of pyrites within or on them. Generally the pieces for sale are quite small. Be careful you do not buy turquenite or blue howlite by mistake – these are dyed materials and are not the same thing. Turquoise is not cheap – if what you are offered is, then it is probably not the genuine article! When you pick turquoise up it is warm to the touch, and feels quite light. Some feel slightly chalky, while others may feel a bit greasy – it depends on the source. Different continents and mines produce quite different forms.

Turquoise is very gentle and calming. It is also cooling, healing, nurturing and supporting. It is an excellent stone for all issues surrounding the throat chakra and communication. It feels like holding a spring or summer sky in your hand. In fact in Native American traditions it was linked to Father Sky, and serves to remind us that the sky is the source of our warmth, energy and light, which keeps us whole and nurtures the crops which grow on the Earth. Many people with Native American connections, either past lives, or guides, may feel attracted to this stone. You also may feel the deep energetic connection to our Earth Mother, and to all the forces and beings of nature. Turquoise holds an old wisdom, but this is not out of date. Now more than ever we have a need to reconnect ourselves to our roots in the Earth and to understand what is happening to her in order that we may harmonise ourselves with her. What changes occur to her affect us, and vice versa. She is moving, changing and raising her vibrations and so we too need to adapt and move with these changes rather than fight against them. Turquoise will help to bring us acceptance of this and to link us more closely in harmony with the Earth and her purpose. Turquoise may also help us to make a stand on environmental and planetary issues.
In itself turquoise is not a high vibrational stone, but it does help us link into and more widely ground new and higher energies. This grounding is not just into the Earth, but connects us firmly to all nature that surrounds us. By making us aware “out” as well as “down” this makes us more aware of our vastness and our place as a part of the Whole.

Peace – calm and peace is brought through this stone. And acceptance that things are meant to be and all is part of Divine Order and our life Plan. Not that this means we have to lie down and accept every little thing that happens to us or around us as “God’s Will”, but to be in touch with our True Selves who have the knowledge of our paths and destinies. To be able to see with clear vision the Truth and to be able to se the purpose in all things that are of the Truth, regardless of the nature of them. Are the troubles, strife and worries that you face in your lives part of your Plan? Or are they signs and symbols indicating that you are going the wrong way, and need to stop, think and reassess. Turquoise will help to link you into the wisdom of your Earth Mother and to your Higher Self to determine the reality behind what is occurring. Turquoise has an old energy yes, but it is wise with the wisdom that age and experience brings, and has a task to complete in supporting the Earth and the Beings upon it in their great transition.
Traditionally it was used as a protective stone. This is not because of the stones’ energy per se, but because of this ability to help one stop, think and assess the Truth. Negativity comes from those who are not aligned to their path and the way of Light (whether consciously or not). But if you live YOUR life in harmony with your purpose and in Truth, then you are truly protected because you are living within the Light, which will always win over darkness.
